DECLAN NORMAN SENTENCED IN SOUTHAMPTON FOR CHILD RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
In September 2023, a disturbing case unfolded in Southampton involving the heinous crimes committed by Declan Norman, a 23-year-old nursery worker whose actions have left a deep scar on the community.Norman was convicted of multiple serious offenses, including the rape and sexual assault of two young children.
The court heard that in February 2020, Norman coerced a 13-year-old victim into performing a sexual act on him, a revelation that shocked the local community and highlighted the severity of his crimes.
Further allegations emerged during the trial, revealing that Norman had also sexually assaulted and raped another young girl over a period spanning from 2014 to 2020.
These allegations were thoroughly examined by a jury at Southampton Crown Court, which ultimately found Norman guilty of these grave offenses.
In addition to the sexual crimes, a separate investigation conducted by Hampshire and Isle of Wight’s Child Abuse Investigation Team uncovered disturbing evidence of child exploitation.
During a search of Norman’s residence in Shinewell Gardens, Southampton, in November 2021, authorities seized multiple electronic devices.
The investigation revealed that Norman possessed a significant collection of indecent images of children.
The forensic analysis of the seized devices uncovered a total of 656 indecent images, including 88 Category A images, which are classified as the most serious, 74 Category B images, and 494 Category C images.
It was noted that these images were not original or first edition images, indicating that Norman did not create them himself but still possessed a large volume of illegal material.
Following the trial, Norman was found guilty of multiple charges, including child rape, sexual assault, and engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
On September 7, he was sentenced to serve eight years in prison, with an additional one-year extension.
The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order on Norman, which will remain in effect indefinitely, and he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
Norman’s case has sent shockwaves through Southampton, highlighting the importance of vigilant law enforcement and child protection efforts in safeguarding vulnerable members of the community.
