FORMER FIFE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL DAVID WILSON SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS IN PRISON IN GLASGOW

In November 2009, David Wilson, a 48-year-old former head teacher from Paisley, received a two-year prison sentence after admitting to downloading nearly 3,000 indecent images of children. He will also serve a further two years under supervision following his release.

Wilson was employed as the head teacher at Auchmuty High School in Glenrothes at the time of the offences. His crimes came to light during Operation Algebra, a far-reaching investigation that has resulted in the arrest of approximately 200 suspected paedophiles worldwide.

Wilson was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh. The previous month, at the Glasgow High Court, he pleaded guilty to charges of possessing and downloading child exploitation images, which he committed between 2004 and 2008. He had been suspended from his position in February 2009.

The police investigation traced Wilson after discovering that he had communicated via email with John Milligan, a member of a paedophile gang. Milligan was recently sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment for multiple child sex offenses.

Following the establishment of this communication link, authorities seized computer equipment belonging to Wilson. Lord Kinclaven stated that an extended sentence was necessary due to the severity of the crimes committed.
