LEE NELSON JAILLED FOR BRUTAL KIRKCALDY ASSAULT THAT INJURED BABY
A man named Lee Nelson has been sentenced to eight months in prison following a violent assault in Kirkcaldy that resulted in a young child sustaining injuries. The incident, which took place at an address within the town, was described by Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist as an "appalling assault," especially considering that the victim was holding her distressed baby at the time.Nelson, aged 32 and residing on Templehall Avenue in Kirkcaldy, was brought before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to face charges related to the attack. The court was informed that Nelson had a history of domestic violence and assault convictions, which added gravity to the case. On the day of the incident, August 9 of the previous year, Nelson admitted to assaulting a woman, during which he repeatedly pushed her and struck her on the head. This assault caused her to stumble and fall, resulting in injuries.
The court heard that Nelson was intoxicated at the time, having attended a funeral earlier that day. An argument ensued between him and the woman, which escalated when she attempted to restrain him by grabbing his arms. During the altercation, Nelson struck her on the head and shoulders. The woman, in an effort to calm her upset child, picked her up from a cot. However, Nelson pushed her again, and in the process, he struck her four or five times while she was holding the baby.
As a result of the assault, the young child was injured, suffering an abrasion above her eyebrow. The mother, distressed and concerned for her child's safety, sought help by going to a neighboring flat. Police were subsequently called to the scene to address the incident.
In court, Nelson’s solicitor, David Cranston, stated that Nelson had taken the initiative to contact the police himself to report the incident. Cranston acknowledged that Nelson recognized the incident as regrettable and admitted that he had not acted in a manner to be proud of. Despite his remorse, the court sentenced Nelson to eight months in prison for his actions, emphasizing the severity of the assault and the impact on the victim and her child.
