DAVID CORNTHORTH CAUGHT IN SOUTHAMPTON WITH UNDERAGE GIRL IMAGES AND SENTENCED
In January 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving a university employee from Southampton who was found to have downloaded and possessed indecent images of underage girls. The individual, identified as David Cornforth, was employed in the resources department at Southampton Solent University.
His actions came to light when authorities uncovered that he had stored six images classified as Category C, depicting minors aged between 11 and 15 years old.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Cornforth not only possessed these illicit images but also actively sought to obtain even younger girls.
Southampton Magistrates' Court heard that he had requested images from others, explicitly asking for pictures of girls who were younger than those he already possessed.
This behavior underscored a disturbing pattern of interest in minors and a clear violation of legal and moral boundaries.
At the court hearing, Cornforth, aged 39 and residing on The Avenue in Southampton, pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing the six indecent images.
His guilty plea was a significant step in the case, which highlighted the severity of his actions.
As part of his sentencing, the court ordered him to complete 80 hours of unpaid community work, emphasizing the need for rehabilitation and community service.
Additionally, Cornforth was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for a period of 18 months.
This order is designed to restrict his access to minors and prevent any further offenses related to sexual harm.
The court also mandated that he undergo a 30-day rehabilitation program aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future misconduct.
Financial penalties included the payment of court costs amounting to £85 and a victim surcharge, which is standard in cases involving sexual offenses.
The combined measures reflect the court’s serious stance on protecting minors and punishing those who exploit them through digital means.
