September 2006 Man admits rape of a 12-year-old A PAEDOPHILE fathered his 14-year-old victim’s baby before moving on to repeatedly rape her younger sister. Daren Baker, aged 29, faces a lengthy prison sentence and life on the sex offenders’ register after he admitted a catalogue of child sex offences committed over a five-year period when he lived in Daventry. In March, he pleaded guilty to nine charges of sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl after being faced with the overwhelming evidence of her child carrying his DNA. But he denied a series of rapes against her 12-year-old sister and the case was adjourned for trial. Faced with a longer prison sentence and the prospect of the younger victim giving evidence, Baker changed his original pleas when he appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to five rapes. Maria Savvides, prosecuting, said one of the victims claimed the sexual abuse happened “once or twice a week”. Judge Peter Morrell told Baker: “You have pleaded guilty to very serious offences and no doubt, you have been advised by your counsel that you face a substantial prison sentence. I shall sentence you in October unless further reports are required.” The court heard Baker, formerly of High Street, Daventry, had been released on bail after he admitted to being the child’s father and was bailed to an address in the St Anns area of Nottingham, but was arrested and locked up when he failed to notify police of a change of address. Steven Evans, defending, said Baker pleaded guilty on the basis there had been no violence or threats of violence towards his victims. He added: “This is somebody who did not have all the advantages during his adolescent upbringing that the rest of us may have enjoyed and there may be some mental deficiencies in his background.”
