DANIEL TEW SENTENCED IN SOUTHAMPTON FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT CRIMES
In a case that has shocked the community of Southampton, Daniel David Tew, aged 42 and residing on Mowbray Road, was handed a significant prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious offences. The sentencing took place at Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday, August 2, following a conviction by a jury on July 28, which found Tew guilty of seven separate charges related to a brutal assault and sexual violence against a woman.
According to court proceedings, the victim, a woman in her 40s, was asleep in her Southampton home during the early hours of June 18, 2022, when Tew launched his violent attack.
The jury was told that Tew subjected her to a series of aggressive and damaging acts, including multiple head-butts, spitting at her, and verbally abusing her in a manner that left her distressed and frightened.
During the assault, he also tore her clothing apart, causing further humiliation and physical harm.
In addition to these assaults, Tew destroyed her mobile phone, rendering it unusable and cutting off her means of communication.
Following the assault, Tew eventually fell asleep, providing the victim with a brief window of opportunity to escape.
She managed to flee her residence and sought refuge at a friend’s house.
From there, she was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where medical staff treated her for a broken nose, injuries to her lip, bruising across her body, and a damaged tooth.
Her ordeal did not end there; she later visited Southampton Central Police Station to report the incident, providing a detailed account of her experience and the injuries sustained.
The victim also disclosed that Tew had committed a separate, more severe offence at a hotel, where he raped her and subjected her to sexual assault and further physical violence.
These allegations added to the charges against Tew, who was subsequently arrested at his Southampton home.
During the police investigation, he was formally charged with multiple offences, including rape, assault by penetration, false imprisonment, assault by beating, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and two counts of criminal damage.
Despite denying the charges, Tew’s trial lasted ten days, culminating in a jury verdict that found him guilty on all counts.
His conviction has led to a sentence of nine years in prison, and he will be subject to lifelong management under the Sex Offenders’ Register.
The case has left a lasting impact on the Southampton community, highlighting the serious consequences of such violent and sexual crimes.
