In a case that has shocked the community of Peterborough, Dale Barrett, a 33-year-old man from Fletton, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the heinous crime of raping a young girl who was only 10 years old at the time of the assault.

The disturbing events took place in the late 1990s, a period during which Barrett managed to establish a relationship with the victim's family, which he exploited to carry out his criminal acts.

The victim, whose identity remains protected, came forward to law enforcement authorities in 2012, revealing the details of the abuse she endured.
