PETERBOROUGH SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR FAILING TO NOTIFY POLICE ABOUT LIVING WITH CHILDREN
A 41-year-old man from West Parade in West Town, Andrew Batty, has been sentenced to 10 months in jail for neglecting to notify police of his residence while registered as a sex offender.Batty, who was convicted of two counts of rape in 2009 at York Crown Court, was placed on the Sex Offenders Register that same year and was obliged to inform police if he resided at a particular address for a week or more, especially if children were present.
His non-compliance was revealed when officers responded to a domestic incident in May and found him living in the same property as two children in Woodston.
After the breach, Batty fled to Lincoln but was eventually arrested.
He admitted to three counts of failing to fulfill notification requirements and was sentenced to jail.
The authorities pointed out that his failure to notify led to the breach being uncovered and his subsequent detention, highlighting the importance of following sex offender notification laws.
