CRAWFORD HULL FROM GALASHIELS AND HAWICK INVOLVED IN SERIOUS CRIMES AND THREATS
In a case that has drawn significant attention in the Scottish Borders, Crawford Hull, a man originally from Galashiels, has faced serious legal proceedings related to allegations of sexual assault and subsequent threatening behavior. The incident in question reportedly took place in Hawick, where Hull is accused of raping a woman at a private residence between June 10th and June 11th, 2017. The case was brought before Jedburgh Sheriff Court, where Hull appeared in private to answer the charges. During the hearing, Hull, aged 29 at the time, did not enter a plea, and the case was adjourned to allow for further investigation and examination of evidence. Sheriff Derrick McIntyre granted Hull bail, allowing him to remain free pending further legal proceedings.Fast forward to 2021, Crawford Hull, now 33 years old, found himself embroiled in a different but equally serious matter involving threats and harassment. Hull was accused of sending menacing messages to his former partner, which led to a court-imposed restriction on his movements. Specifically, Hull was subjected to a night-time curfew at his residence in Galashiels, where he was required to stay indoors from 8 pm until 6 am for a period of six months. The details of the case were presented at Selkirk Sheriff Court, revealing that Hull had been in a relationship with the woman for four years, culminating in their marriage in April 2019. However, the marriage ended roughly a year later, and the couple separated.
Prosecutor Fraser Matheson explained that during their relationship, there were ongoing communications between Hull and his former partner. The situation escalated in late November and early December when the woman began a new relationship with another man. Hull reportedly struggled with this development, and on December 4th, he sent a series of threatening and inappropriate messages to his ex-partner. One message ominously stated, "I am either going to kill you, him or both, preferably the first." Another message claimed that her new partner was "a dead man walking," and Hull warned that if he encountered the couple in Selkirk, they should be prepared for violence. Further messages indicated that Hull hoped to confront the new partner late at night, saying, "I hope I see him late at night because he is getting his face panned in."
The woman responded by threatening to report Hull to the police, which led to further offensive messages from Hull, including an insult that prompted her to block his contact. Subsequently, she did report the threats to law enforcement authorities. Hull pleaded guilty to breaching the Communications Act 2003, acknowledging the threatening messages. His defense lawyer, Mat Patrick, argued that Hull was still married to the woman at the time and claimed that the messages were driven by feelings of unfairness regarding the breakup and her new relationship. Mr. Patrick emphasized that Hull was not typically prone to such behavior and insisted that the threats were empty, asserting that Hull had no intention of carrying out any violence.
The court was informed that the relationship had since ended, and the woman had sought a non-harassment order to prevent further contact. However, she was unable to afford the legal process at the time. Sheriff Kenneth Campbell ultimately imposed a non-harassment order that prohibits Hull from contacting his former wife for the next 12 months. Additionally, a night-time curfew was enforced, requiring Hull to remain at his Galashiels residence during specified hours, as part of the court’s efforts to prevent further harassment and ensure public safety.
