CHRISTOPHER MULLEY FROM NEWBURY SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX IMAGE OFFENSES IN READING
In a recent development in a serious case involving child exploitation, Christopher Mulley, a resident of Newbury, was brought before Reading Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 12. The 67-year-old, who resides at Epsom Crescent in Newbury, faced charges related to the possession and creation of indecent images of children. During the proceedings, Mulley admitted to possessing or making a total of 35 such images, categorized across different levels of severity.Specifically, he confessed to possessing or creating eight images classified as Category A, which is considered the most severe and explicit level of indecency. Additionally, he acknowledged making or possessing 12 images in Category B and 15 images in Category C. All these offences were alleged to have taken place within the town of Newbury, spanning from July 21, 2010, to March 11 of the previous year.
The magistrates, after reviewing the case, determined that the gravity of the offences was beyond their sentencing powers. Recognizing the seriousness of the crimes, they decided that the case should be transferred to a higher court for sentencing. Consequently, they declined jurisdiction and committed the case to Reading Crown Court, with a date for the hearing to be scheduled in the future.
Meanwhile, Christopher Mulley was released on unconditional bail, allowing him to remain free until his next court appearance. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities to address and prosecute crimes involving the exploitation of children, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from such heinous acts.
