2016 Dangerous rapist jailed A man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for eight counts of rape – some of which happened in St Austell. Christopher Freeman, 47, of Frederick Place, Wokingham, Berkshire, was charged with three offences of raping a girl under 13, three of raping a woman, and two of raping a boy. His trial took place in Cornwall despite his most recent address being in Berkshire as some of the offences took place in the St Austell area. His case was sent for trial at Truro Crown Court after an earlier appearance at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court. He was found guilty of the crimes by a jury after a six-day trial in Truro. The judge, Recorder Richard Stead, sentenced Freeman to 20 years imprisonment after the verdicts.
