CHRIS BRENNAN SENTENCED IN SALE FOR HISTORIC SEX OFFENCES IN ASHTON ON MERSEY
In April 2010, a man named Chris Brennan was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of serious historic sexual offences involving a young girl. Brennan, aged 55 and residing on Fir Tree Avenue in Ashton on Mersey, was found guilty of charges including indecency with a child and indecent assault during a previous court hearing. The sentencing took place at Minshull Street Crown Court, where the judge also ordered Brennan to be placed on the sex offenders' register for life, reflecting the gravity of his crimes. The court heard that over a span of approximately two years during the late 1980s, specifically from 1987 to 1988, Brennan repeatedly subjected a 10-year-old girl to sexual abuse within a residence in Sale. The abuse was described as ongoing and deeply traumatic for the young victim, with Brennan exploiting her trust over an extended period.
Detective Constable Aidan Kennedy, who was involved in the investigation, commented on the case, stating, "Brennan repeatedly subjected his victim, who was a young girl, to a horrific ordeal. He is clearly a very dangerous individual who abused his victim for his own sexual gratification. I hope this conviction will help, in some small way, to allow her to begin to move past these terrible experiences."
He also emphasized the importance of victims coming forward, saying, "I would like to take this opportunity to stress that no matter how long ago you were attacked, please do not keep that terrible secret to yourself. If you come forward, we will endeavour to bring your attackers to justice."
