CARL BUTTON CONVICTED OF SEXUAL OFFENSES IN WATERLOOVILLE AND HAMPSHIRE
In a significant legal development, Carl Douglas Button, a 47-year-old man from London Road, Waterlooville, Hampshire, has been found guilty of multiple sexual offences following a thorough investigation conducted by Thames Valley Police. The conviction was reached after a jury delivered a majority verdict at Reading Crown Court, where the trial concluded on Friday, April 21.Button faced charges that included three counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault by penetration. These allegations stem from incidents that took place in Waterlooville, where he was employed as a housing officer for a private housing association. During the trial, the court heard that Button exploited his position of trust to commit these serious crimes.
It was revealed that in July 2019, Button entered the victim’s residence—a woman in her fifties—under the pretense of his official duties. Once inside her home, he subjected her to a prolonged and serious sexual assault, which caused significant distress and trauma to the victim. The court was told that this assault was both serious and sustained, highlighting the gravity of the offences committed.
Button was arrested in June 2020, and subsequent investigations led to formal charges being brought against him on May 25, 2022. Despite facing multiple allegations, he was acquitted of one additional count of sexual assault during the trial.
He is scheduled to be sentenced at Reading Crown Court on June 15, where the court will determine the appropriate punishment for his actions. The case has garnered considerable attention in the local community of Waterlooville and the wider Hampshire area, emphasizing the importance of justice in cases involving abuse of authority and sexual misconduct.
