BRUCE HILL SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN MAIDSTONE
In March 2010, a man named Bruce Hill, who has no fixed address, was sentenced to an indefinite term of imprisonment following his conviction for sexually assaulting a young girl in Maidstone. The court proceedings revealed that Hill, aged 51 at the time, committed the assault in December 2008. The victim, an 11-year-old girl, confided in her mother about the incident, which prompted further investigation.During the trial at Maidstone Crown Court, it was also disclosed that Hill had previously engaged in inappropriate conduct with the same girl. She recounted an earlier incident where she was playing in a relative’s garden in Maidstone and Hill had kissed her on the lips, inserting his tongue into her mouth, and had committed other sexual acts. These disturbing revelations contributed to the severity of the case.
Hill pleaded guilty to four charges of sexual assault, acknowledging his misconduct. The court heard that Hill’s criminal history includes a 12-year prison sentence in Spain in 1992 for rape. Additionally, in 2004, he was sentenced to six years for manslaughter, which originated from a wounding incident that resulted in the death of the victim.
Mr. Walker, representing Hill, provided context about his criminal past, including the rape of a 19-year-old woman in 1991. The manslaughter conviction stemmed from an incident where Hill caused injury that led to a fatality, although it initially involved a wounding charge.
Judge Jeremy Gold QC addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of Hill’s latest offenses. He stated, “The latest offences are extremely serious. I regret to say I have no hesitation in concluding that you are dangerous and present a serious risk to others.” The judge then sentenced Hill to an indeterminate term of imprisonment for public protection, meaning Hill would not be eligible for parole until the parole board certifies that he is safe to re-enter society. The judge clarified that if the sentence had been determinate, it would have been set at eight years.
