WILLIAM DIAK FROM MAIDSTONE SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN MILTON KEYNES
On February 3, 2012, a disturbing case involving William Diack, a 55-year-old man from Maidstone, came to a conclusion in the criminal justice system. Diack was convicted of a series of heinous sexual offences committed against two young children over a span of more than a decade. His crimes, which took place primarily in Milton Keynes, have shocked the local community and highlighted the ongoing battle against child abuse.William Diack, residing on Wordsworth Road in Maidstone, was sentenced to an indeterminate prison term with a minimum of 10 years and 10 months. The conviction followed a comprehensive trial that lasted a week, culminating in a guilty verdict on December 16. The charges included three counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault, all pertaining to the abuse of two children—a boy and a girl—whose ages ranged from five to fifteen years old at the time of the offences.
The sexual offences occurred between 1999 and 2009, during which Diack was living in the central Milton Keynes area. The boy, aged between 11 and 15, and the girl, aged between five and nine, were subjected to Diack’s predatory behaviour over several years. The gravity of these crimes was compounded by the fact that Diack had moved away from Milton Keynes in 2006, first relocating to Croydon and later settling in Kent.
His arrest took place on December 9, 2010, at his residence in Maidstone. Following his apprehension, authorities seized his computer, uncovering more than 200 indecent images of children, classified from levels one to five, with level five being the most severe. Diack faced ten counts of producing indecent images of children, although these charges are now on file and have not been pursued further at this stage.
Detective Constable Kim McHugh, from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit based in Bletchley, expressed her condemnation of Diack’s actions. She emphasized the horrific nature of the offences and the manipulative tactics used by Diack to silence his victims. McHugh highlighted that four of the charges were not isolated incidents but represented ongoing conduct over several years, illustrating the prolonged and devastating impact on the victims’ lives.
McHugh also praised the bravery of the victims for coming forward and supporting the police investigation. She urged other victims of sexual abuse, whether past or present, to find the strength to report their experiences, assuring that the authorities take such allegations very seriously and conduct thorough investigations. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need to protect vulnerable children from predators like William Diack, whose actions have left a lasting scar on the community of Milton Keynes and beyond.
