September 2011 Ex Moseley fireman jailed for sexually abusing child A former fireman who sexually assaulted a child he was babysitting has been jailed for 30 months. Brian Morgan, 46, of Kingswood Road, Moseley, was asked to look after the four-year-old girl while her mum went to work on May 10 last year. The child told her mother what had happened the following day. Richard Franck, prosecuting, told Birmingham Crown Court: “The mother was deeply shocked and confronted the defendant. “He denied it and suggested the child was lying. “But the child stood up to the defendant and bravely said he did it. The mother told him to leave and he did.” Later that day, Morgan went to see a doctor, where he confessed what he had done. The police were called and Morgan was arrested at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The court heard the child still had flashbacks and talked about what happened to her “every day”. Gerald Bermingham, defending, said Morgan accepted full responsibility. He added: “He knows what happened should never have happened. “He denied the offence in front of the child but, in a very short space of time, he was at the hospital admitting it.” Morgan admitted one count of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13. Jailing him, Judge Rupert Mayo called the assault “a gross breach of trust”. He said: “The aggravating feature is that you denied it in the presence of the child which will make the task of getting over it, and that of the family, all the more harder.” Morgan was also given an indefinite sexual offences prevention order banning him from working with children, staying where there are children and allowing children in his private cars or houses.
