BRAIN CURTIS SHOCKS SOUTHAMPTON WITH INDECENT EXPOSURE IN BLACKFIELD PARK
A pensioner from Southampton, identified as Brian Curtis, has been at the center of a disturbing incident involving indecent exposure in a park located in Blackfield, Southampton. The incident, which took place in May of the previous year, involved Curtis following two young boys, aged 11 and 13, after they had been playing with friends in a local park within the New Forest area.
According to court proceedings at Southampton Crown Court, the two boys had been enjoying their time in the park, engaging in typical childhood activities and socializing with friends.
As the group began to leave the area, they noticed an elderly man, Curtis, walking nearby.
Curious, they approached him and asked if he could take a selfie with him.
The situation took a troubling turn when Curtis, after the boys started to leave, asked them if he should follow them.
One of the boys responded negatively, while another jokingly said yes, as explained by prosecutor Keely Harvey.
Despite the boys’ initial response, Curtis proceeded to follow them.
Once the boys became aware of his actions, they reportedly started to feel uneasy and began to panic.
In an effort to escape the situation, they stopped a woman walking nearby, seeking her advice and asking her to take a different route.
After some time, when they returned to check if Curtis was still present, he told them to “put the cameras away,” which heightened their suspicion and fear.
The court heard that Curtis then engaged in a shocking act of indecency, unzipping his trousers and exposing himself to the boys.
He allegedly told them, “you have to do the same,” which further traumatized the young victims.
Ms.
Harvey detailed that both boys, still very young at 11 and 13, decided to walk away again in an attempt to distance themselves from Curtis.
Despite this, Curtis continued to follow them, claiming that he was simply on his way back home when questioned about his actions.
In a distressing development, the boys approached another woman walking nearby and warned her about Curtis’s behavior.
During this encounter, Curtis reportedly told her that “the boys offered to show their penis if he showed his first,” a claim that added to the seriousness of the allegations.
The police were called to the scene, and Curtis was taken into custody.
During police interviews, Curtis claimed that he had been “tricked” into the situation, asserting that he was not the initial aggressor.
In his defense, Audrey Archer, representing Curtis, emphasized that the 87-year-old man wished to clarify that the boys had approached him with the intention of taking photos and that he had not initiated any contact.
She acknowledged that Curtis had crossed boundaries and behaved inappropriately that day, but she also highlighted that he has been honest and candid about what happened, and that the incident had a significant impact on him.
However, Judge Brian Forster KC was clear in his condemnation of Curtis’s actions.
He stated, “Whatever occurred in the conversation, there can be no justification for what you did.
Children are children.
Adults have to own the responsibility.” The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offense, warning Curtis that such behavior must not be repeated.
As a result, Curtis was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and to complete 45 days of rehabilitation.
Furthermore, he received a two-year ban from returning to the park in Blackfield, Southampton, as part of his sentence.
