Southampton Man Sentenced to Jail for Domestic Assault and Criminal Damage

SOUTHAMPTON MAN SENTENCED TO JAIL FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A man from Southampton named Benjamin Evetts has been found guilty of attacking his former partner in what authorities have described as an 'appalling' assault, resulting in a sentence of two and a half years in prison.

The 27-year-old, who was detained at HMP Winchester prior to his court hearing, admitted to charges of causing actual bodily harm and property damage under £5000.

The incident took place on June 12 when Evetts visited his ex-partner's flat.

He pushed her over upon her opening the door, then knelt beside her and placed his thumb around her windpipe, making her struggle to breathe.

During the attack, he seized her phone to prevent her from calling for help.

After leaving her residence for approximately 45 minutes, he returned and damaged her property to gain access.

In a subsequent assault, he grabbed her by the throat, pushed her to the ground, used her hair to bash her head into the wall, and spat at her.

Hampshire Police responded to the scene, detained Evetts, and took him into custody.

PC Romany Cushing, who led the investigation, stated, “Evetts’ behaviour was truly shocking.

Domestic abuse and assault are never acceptable, and we are committed to pursuing and bringing perpetrators to justice.” The police encouraged victims or anyone with information about domestic abuse to contact them on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
