BEBI IBRAM FROM GRAVESEND SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN HIGH STREET INCIDENT

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Gravesend, a man named Bebi Ibram has been found guilty of committing a sexual assault against a vulnerable woman in the town. The incident took place on the afternoon of Monday, 9 September 2024, when Ibram approached a woman who was experiencing homelessness and was resting in the busy High Street area.

According to reports, Ibram deliberately approached the woman, who was sleeping in a doorway, and then proceeded to lie down beside her. Without her consent, he removed some of her clothing and subjected her to a sexual assault. The woman, awakening to the assault, immediately screamed for help, which drew the attention of a nearby man. This bystander quickly intervened, confronting Ibram and causing him to flee the scene in a panic.

In his haste to escape, Ibram left behind a pair of footwear, which became a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation. Local police officers responded swiftly to the scene, collecting the shoes and examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area. A vigilant constable recognized Ibram from the images captured on the cameras, which led to further investigation.

Forensic analysis of the footwear seized from the scene confirmed the presence of Ibram’s DNA, establishing a direct link between him and the assault. This evidence, combined with the CCTV footage, facilitated his identification and subsequent arrest. Ibram was taken into custody on 27 September and formally charged with sexual assault.

He appeared at Woolwich Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charges. On Tuesday, 9 December, Ibram was sentenced to a prison term of one year and three months. The sentence also included the activation of two previously suspended sentences, reflecting the seriousness of his actions. Additionally, he has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

Detective Constable Chloe Smith commented on the case, emphasizing the significance of community cooperation and swift police action. She stated, ‘Ibram chose to target a very vulnerable woman and no doubt hoped he would get away with his crime. Fortunately, a man came to her assistance and her cowardly attacker fled the scene. A swift response from local patrols ensured vital evidence was recovered and, after a local officer recognized the criminal from a CCTV image, Ibram was tracked down and arrested. He has now been jailed and I would like to thank the victim who courageously assisted us to bring this appalling man to justice.’
