BARRY MILLARD SENT BACK TO PRISON IN CRAWLEY FOR SIMILAR OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG BOYS
In a recent development that underscores ongoing concerns about past sexual offenses, Barry Millard, a 71-year-old man from Crawley, has been sentenced to additional time behind bars for crimes committed decades ago.Millard, who resides on Horsham Road in Crawley, had previously served a prison term for sex offenses committed in the 1970s.
However, he has now been convicted again for similar offenses involving another young boy during the same period.
The new sentencing occurred at Hove Crown Court on November 26, where Millard received a 22-month prison term after admitting to indecently assaulting a teenage boy during a camping trip in the 1970s.
The police confirmed that the victim, who chose to come forward after more than 40 years of silence, was motivated to do so after seeing media coverage of Millard’s earlier conviction in February 2017.
That earlier case involved Millard being sentenced to three years in prison for indecent assaults on another boy in his late teens, also in Crawley, during the same decade.
According to authorities, the victim in the recent case had kept his ordeal private for over four decades, but the media coverage of Millard’s 2017 conviction prompted him to seek justice and report the abuse.
The police emphasized that Millard is already a registered sex offender for life and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
This order imposes strict restrictions on his interactions with young boys, and these restrictions remain in effect following his latest sentencing.
In the earlier 2017 case, Millard, then aged 68 and living on Keymer Road in Crawley, was convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage boy between 1977 and 1979.
He faced two counts of indecent assault on a boy aged between 13 and 15.
The jury at Lewes Crown Court found him guilty on both counts, leading to a sentence of three years in prison, with an additional 12-month sentence to run concurrently.
The assaults took place at the now-defunct Crawley Boys Club located on London Road, as well as at an address in Lavington Close, Ifield.
Authorities clarified that the Crawley Boys Club had closed many years prior to these incidents, and the crimes committed there are not connected to the current club or any of its present staff.
The police reiterated their commitment to pursuing justice for victims of past abuse and highlighted the importance of reporting such crimes, regardless of how much time has passed.
