SOUTHAMPTON MAN ATTEMPTS CHILD ABDUCTION AT RIVERSIDE PARK IN BITTERNE
In August 2012, a disturbing incident occurred in Riverside Park, located in the Bitterne area of Southampton, where a man attempted to abduct a three-year-old girl.The incident was only thwarted by the quick actions of the child's mother, who intervened just in time to prevent a potential tragedy.
According to police reports, the young girl was playing near her mother in the park when a man approached her.
Without warning, he lifted her into his arms, attempting to carry her away.
The child's mother immediately challenged the man, demanding he release her daughter.
Her quick response was crucial in stopping the abduction, and she managed to take her daughter back from the suspect.
The man then fled the scene, heading in the direction of Cobden Bridge within Bitterne Park.
The incident took place around 3:30 pm on August 17, 2012, near the miniature railway and the children's play area in Riverside Park.
Authorities have released a description of the suspect in hopes of identifying him.
He is described as a white male with a slight tan, estimated to be between 35 and 40 years old.
He stands approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and has a slim build.
His facial features include a gaunt face with prominent cheekbones, short dark hair, and a stubbly goatee beard.
At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black T-shirt and dark, baggy stonewashed jeans.
Police are urging witnesses who may have seen the man or have any relevant information to come forward.
