ARTUR WIELADEK CAUGHT PLEASURING HIMSELF IN PUBLIC IN SOUTHAMPTON'S TOTTEN AREA
In June of last year, a disturbing incident occurred on the outskirts of Totton, a suburb near Southampton, involving a man named Artur Wieladek.Witnesses reported seeing Wieladek, aged 42 and residing on Osborne Road North in Southampton, engaging in inappropriate behavior in a public space, which led to his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
According to court records, Wieladek was observed with his trousers lowered on the edge of the Totton precinct.
He was seen moving his right hand back and forth in a manner consistent with pleasuring himself while facing towards the public area.
The incident was witnessed by a couple who were passing by, and they later provided detailed testimony during the trial at Southampton Magistrates’ Court.
One of the witnesses, recalling the event from the morning of June 11, 2022, stated, “We walked past the toilet block towards the precinct, and a metre or so after we passed it my husband said, ‘can you see that gentleman?’” She expressed her concern about the man's behavior, noting that it appeared unusual for someone to be engaging in such acts in a public place.
She further explained, “He was facing us but looking towards the precinct where people were sat.
It didn’t look like something you would be doing when going to the toilet, and I didn’t see any urine.” She emphasized that her impression was that Wieladek was not urinating but rather pleasuring himself, as they had an unobstructed line of sight.
The second witness corroborated this account, stating, “We saw him pleasure himself for about five seconds, long enough for me to be satisfied that’s what he was doing.
It’s very clear in my mind.” Following the incident, the witnesses contacted the police, who arrived shortly thereafter.
Wieladek was detained and taken into custody.
During the court proceedings, Wieladek, who chose to represent himself, admitted to the charge of outraging public decency.
However, he initially claimed that he was urinating, not pleasuring himself.
In addition to the public decency charge, Wieladek also pleaded guilty to criminal damage for urinating in the back of a police van after his arrest.
The court heard that during the Newton hearing, solicitor Tim McGoldrick clarified to the witnesses that what they observed was “the end of a wee” and that Wieladek was “shaking himself dry.” The chairman of the court, Miss Hampton, acknowledged the credibility of the witnesses, stating, “We have found the two witnesses to be very credible.
They were not word perfect and they were confident in their shock at what they saw.
We definitely believe that the Crown has proved the case beyond all reasonable doubt.” Wieladek is scheduled to appear before Southampton Magistrates’ Court on October 18 for sentencing, where the full extent of his legal consequences will be determined.
