ANTHONY RENNISON IN LEEDS SENTENCED FOR DECADES OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A pensioner from Leeds has finally faced justice nearly 50 years after beginning a pattern of sexual abuse against young girls.Anthony Rennison, aged 71, was convicted of 13 counts of indecent assault spanning the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, and received a combined sentence of 16 years in prison.
Leeds Crown Court was told that if Rennison's actions were judged under current legislation, some of his offences might be classified as rape.
The court heard how Rennison's abusive actions severely damaged the lives of his victims.
Rennison, living on Skelton Crescent, Osmondthorpe, Leeds, committed abuse against his first victim in the mid-1960s when she was just three years old.
His offending continued into the 1970s and early 1980s.
Judge Simon Phillips, QC, stated that Rennison had shown no remorse for the lifelong trauma he caused.
Addressing Rennison, the judge said: “You and your wife married in the 1970s.
Your wife had no idea about the double life you led or your sexual interest in children.
“It was clear during the trial that you have no remorse for the abuse inflicted on those children and the harm caused to their lives.
“I observed both victims give evidence and was able to see the profound impact your actions have had on them.” The judge added, “The passage of time has not helped these individuals.
They have lived through every trauma of your predatory acts well into their teenage and adult years.
“You have persistently acted as a predatory paedophile.”
