2010: RAPIST JAILED FOR DOUBLE ATTACK
Anthony Greenwood, aged 26, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after a jury found him guilty of subjecting a vulnerable woman to a traumatic two-and-a-half-hour attack. The incident occurred at her friend’s house during an all-day drinking session, as heard in court at Bolton Crown Court.
Greenwood was convicted of raping the woman twice, with the court details revealing that during the assault, he punched, slapped, and bit her, while telling her not to scream.
The woman suffered injuries such as bruises on her arms, eyes, and thighs, as well as bite marks on her breasts.
He also received an additional 18 months on extended licence, which he must complete after his release.
The jury, which consisted of seven men and five women, reached a verdict in less than two hours, finding Greenwood guilty of two counts of rape and one of sexual assault.
It was described that the 40-year-old victim was in the kitchen of her friend’s house in Halliwell when Greenwood approached her and asked for sex; she declined, having already refused his advances earlier that day.
Greenwood then forcibly grabbed her by the shoulders and said, “We’re going to the main bedroom now,” before raping her in a bedroom for 90 minutes, then moving her to another room for another hour of assault.
The attack only stopped when her friend entered holding a hammer.
Greenwood, from Boundary Gardens, Halliwell, denied the charges, claiming that the sexual acts were consensual.
