LEEDS FITNESS INSTRUCTOR ANTHONY BEARDSLEY GROOMS TEEN GIRL AND ENGAGES IN SEXUAL ACTIVITY IN FAMILY HOME AND PARK
In July 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Anthony Beardsley, a fitness instructor based in Leeds, who was convicted of grooming a vulnerable teenage girl and engaging in multiple sexual acts with her.The heinous actions took place over several months, during which Beardsley exploited his position and trust to carry out his predatory behavior.
Beardsley, aged 44, used his role at a local fitness center in Leeds as a cover to initiate contact with his young victim.
He offered her additional exercise classes outside of the regular sessions, claiming these were private lessons.
However, these private meetings served as a platform for his sinister grooming campaign.
The court heard that Beardsley took advantage of the girl’s trust, luring her to secluded locations, including a park in Leeds, where he committed sex acts on her.
Additionally, he brought her to his own home, where he engaged in sexual activity with her while his wife and children were away, between January and September 2020.
The case came to light when the girl’s father discovered a series of incriminating text messages on his daughter’s phone.
These messages, sent by Beardsley, suggested that they were planning to meet up, raising suspicions about the nature of their relationship.
The father’s concern prompted him to report the matter to the police.
When Beardsley was questioned at a police station, he surprisingly expressed a desire to admit his guilt immediately, stating that he wanted to rebuild his life, indicating a level of remorse or perhaps a recognition of the gravity of his actions.
During the court proceedings, the victim provided a heartfelt impact statement.
She described feeling like “a toy” during the abuse and expressed relief that her father had uncovered the truth.
Her statement also included a disturbing text from Beardsley, in which he wrote: “It was so good.
Kissing you is so f***ing good.
I want to make you happy.” The girl further stated, “Learn to control yourself and keep it in your own pants.
Telling me to hide stuff like this means you knew it was wrong.
You took me to your own house and made me do unspeakable things.” Judge Graham Reeds QC addressed Beardsley directly, expressing his disbelief that the young girl had been the one to attach herself to him.
The judge emphasized that Beardsley’s actions clearly constituted grooming behavior and that he could have prevented the situation.
The court found that Beardsley’s conduct was manipulative and predatory.
Anthony Beardsley, of St John’s Road in Leeds, pleaded guilty to 13 counts of sexual activity with a child.
The court noted that he had suffered reactive depression as a consequence of the case.
Ultimately, he was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for his crimes, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the harm inflicted upon his young victim.
