ANSAR HUSSAIN FROM NORMANTON JAILED FOR ABDUCTION AND SEXUAL OFFENSES IN DERBY

In a serious case that has shocked the local community, Ansar Hussain, a 24-year-old man from Normanton, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in the abduction and sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl. The incident unfolded on October 7 when police in Derby stopped Hussain's vehicle on London Road. The police had been alerted earlier that day by the girl’s concerned grandmother, who reported her missing and expressed fears about her well-being.

During the police stop, Hussain was found sitting in the driver’s seat of a car with the young girl in the passenger seat. A search of the vehicle revealed a small quantity of cannabis, and forensic tests on the girl’s underwear confirmed the presence of Hussain’s DNA, establishing a sexual encounter between the two. Initially, Hussain denied having any sexual contact with the girl, but he later admitted to the authorities that they had engaged in sexual activity.

Hussain’s criminal charges included abduction, sexual activity with a minor, and possession of a controlled drug. The case was brought before Derby Crown Court, where Judge David Pugsley presided over the sentencing. The judge emphasized the gravity of the offense, stating, “If you come back for any sex offence, you will probably be at risk from being locked up for a very long time.” He also highlighted the fact that, although the age difference was not substantial, the girl was clearly underage and Hussain was aware of her age at the time of the incident.

Prosecutor Jonathan James provided context about Hussain’s prior interactions with law enforcement. He explained that police had previously spoken to Hussain after the girl’s grandmother contacted authorities on September 13, raising concerns about her granddaughter’s involvement in drugs and inappropriate sexual activity. On that occasion, police warned Hussain that the girl was under the age of consent. The subsequent call from the grandmother on October 7 led to the police stopping Hussain’s vehicle, which resulted in the discovery of the girl and the incriminating evidence.

In his defense, Hussain’s lawyer, Alwyn Jones, argued that the girl had approached Hussain in Derby and claimed she was over 16. Mr. Jones described Hussain’s actions as naive and suggested that the girl’s behavior had been unruly, with her going missing and associating with the wrong crowd. He also noted that this was Hussain’s first experience of custody and implied that the incident served as a significant lesson for him.

Judge Pugsley sentenced Hussain to a total of two years and eight months in prison for sexual activity with a child, with an additional two years for abduction. A three-month sentence for the drug possession was also imposed, with all sentences to run concurrently. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which such offenses are regarded, especially given the vulnerability of the young victim and the breach of trust involved in the case.
