June 2017 ‘Predator’ pensioner from Greenock is jailed for decade over disgusting sex crimes A GREENOCK pensioner who spent most of his adult life sexually abusing three children and two adult women has been jailed for 10 years. Despicable Angus Robertson,67, preyed on his victims at various locations in the Inverclyde area between February 1972 and January 2013. The High Court in Edinburgh heard how how the pervert sexually assaulted his first victim – a four-year-old girl – in the early 1970s. He continued to abuse the female, who cannot be named for legal reasons, until June 1996. Robertson, of Belleaire Drive, subjected his other victims to sexual assault, physical violence and rape. He also physically assaulted another young boy over a nine-year period. The child was just seven when Robertson started to punch, kick and slap him on the head and body. Robertson was finally brought to justice after police learned of what he had done and launched an investigation into his activities. Robertson, who has previous convictions for violence, was convicted at the High Court in Glasgow last month of sexual assault, assault and rape charges. Judge Lord Clark adjourned sentence to obtain reports about Robertson’s character. As he appeared before the judge for sentencing Robertson was told that the social worker who compiled the report on him had said the offender posed a ‘serious’ risk to women and children. The judge said the report findings meant he had to impose a significant custodial sentence in order to protect the public. Ordering Robertson to be supervised by the authorities for three years following his release from custody, Lord Clark said: “The word predatory appears to be a fitting description of your behaviour. “You have been assessed as posing a serious risk to adult women and children. “There is no alternative to a prison sentence. In order to protect the public, I shall impose a significant prison sentence in order to protect the public and to deter you, and others like you, from committing offences of this nature.” At proceedings last month Robertson denied all wrongdoing. However, jurors convicted him of no fewer than 18 charges following an eight-day long trial. The court heard how Robertson started abusing his first victim in February 1972 at a location in his home town. He indulged in lewd and libidinous practices with the girl and sexually abused her until the mid-1990s. The court heard how on two occasions between January 1978 and February 1985, he physically assaulted her by repeatedly striking her on the head and body and pushing her against a glass door at a house in Greenock. The court also heard that between June 1979 and June 1987, Robertson preyed on his second victim, who was then aged 11-years-old. The offender sexually assaulted the young woman, who also cannot be named for legal reasons, at various locations in Greenock. He also physically assaulted the young woman on an occasion between June 1986 and June 1987 at an address in Greenock. On occasions between January 1996 and November 2010, Robertson sexually and physically assaulted a woman at various locations in Scotland. The court heard how he raped the woman on various occasions at numerous locations in Scotland between January 2005 and May 2011. On various occasions between September 2001 and September 2010, Robertson repeatedly physically assaulted a seven-year-old boy. The court heard how Robertson kicked and slapped the boy on the head and body during the attacks. Robertson then repeatedly raped another woman in the Greenock area between January 2011 and January 2013. He also repeatedly attempted to rape the same woman during the same time period. Robertson also repeatedly sexually assaulted the woman. Lord Clark also placed Robertson on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
