ANGUS DIXON SEX OFFENDER FROM WEYMOUTH SENTENCED AFTER ASSAULT ON TEENAGE GIRL IN DORCHESTER

In June 2007, a serious incident involving a local sex offender from Weymouth, Angus William Dixon, was brought before the courts following a disturbing assault on a teenage girl. The case was heard at Dorchester Crown Court, where the details of the incident and Dixon's criminal history were laid bare for the judge and public alike.

According to prosecutor Tim Bradbury, Dixon, aged 48 at the time, had been drinking prior to arriving at a friend’s flat located in Milborne St Andrew. His state of intoxication was evident, as he was described as being tipsy, with his speech and behavior becoming increasingly lewd and inappropriate. It was during this visit that Dixon’s misconduct came to light.

Mr. Bradbury explained that Dixon was drawn to a 14-year-old girl who was also present at the flat. He sat beside her and proceeded to make unwelcome physical advances. Specifically, Dixon placed his hand on her bare leg, kissed her hand, and licked it. His inappropriate conduct escalated when he also placed his hand on her bottom over her clothing. The girl, distressed by Dixon’s actions, became visibly upset and decided to leave the flat.

Following her departure, the girl went to a nearby park, where she was found crying by friends. When questioned about her distress, she disclosed what had happened, prompting her friends to contact the police. The incident caused significant concern, especially given Dixon’s prior criminal record.

Angus Dixon, who resided on Milton Close in Weymouth, had previously pleaded guilty at Weymouth Magistrates Court to a charge of sexual assault. The magistrates subsequently committed him to the Crown Court for sentencing, recognizing the seriousness of the offence.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Christopher Harvey Clark highlighted that Dixon’s history of sexual offences was an aggravating factor. It was revealed that Dixon had a previous conviction for a similar offence approximately eight years earlier. His lawyer, Richard Tutt, acknowledged that Dixon’s issues with alcohol were a contributing factor, noting that he now mostly lived in Spain on an isolated farm.

Judge Harvey Clark stated that the offence was severe enough to warrant a custodial sentence. He sentenced Dixon to 26 weeks in prison, a sentence that was suspended for two years. The judge explained that had Dixon not pleaded guilty, the sentence could have been as long as 39 weeks, had he been convicted after a trial.

Furthermore, the judge issued a stern warning to Dixon, telling him to keep his hands to himself and to stay away from young women and girls under the age of 16. He cautioned that any future inappropriate behaviour could lead to serious consequences, whether in the United Kingdom or in Spain, emphasizing the importance of respecting boundaries and the law.
