ANDREW SAGGERS AND HIS BRUTAL CRIMES IN EAST SUSSEX
A delivery driver has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 16 years after being found guilty of raping two women in East Sussex.The offender, Andrew Saggers, aged 41 and residing on East Albany Road in Seaford, committed these heinous acts several years apart but within the same region.
The first assault took place in December 2006 near Polegate, where Saggers raped a woman in her late twenties.
Despite the passage of time, the victim’s experience remained unreported until recent developments.
The second attack occurred in May 2014 in Eastbourne, when Saggers raped a woman in her late thirties.
The criminal investigation was revived after the second victim came forward, reporting the assault in May 2014.
The police swiftly traced the earlier victim from 2006, who had not initially come forward to authorities about her assault.
Saggers was already in remand for other matters when law enforcement managed to connect him to both crimes.
Detective Constable Lisa Wells from the East Sussex Specialist Investigation Unit explained the importance of the victims' cooperation, stating, “With her support, we were able to gather evidence that enabled us to charge him with that crime too.” She further emphasized the commitment of the police to pursue justice, remarking, “Both women were very supportive of the prosecution, and gave evidence at the trial.” The extension of the investigation and the subsequent prosecution highlight the persistence of law enforcement in bringing offenders to justice, regardless of how long ago the crimes occurred.
The sentencing underscores a firm stance against sexual violence, reaffirming the message that no perpetrator should evade accountability due to the passage of time.
