SHROPSHIRE MAN ANDREW MORRIS CAUGHT WITH OVER 1,000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHROPSHIRE

In a significant case that highlights the ongoing battle against online child exploitation, Andrew Morris, a 24-year-old resident of Shropshire, was found guilty of possessing an extensive collection of indecent images of children.

The police investigation uncovered that Morris had accumulated more than 1,000 such images, which included various categories of severity, between July 2014 and March of the following year.

Initially, Morris denied charges that he had created 98 Category A indecent photographs, which are classified as the most serious and disturbing images.

He also contested allegations involving 282 Category B images and an additional 877 Category C images.

However, during a court hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Morris ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges, acknowledging his involvement in the possession of these illicit materials.

Following his conviction, the court sentenced Morris to a three-year community order.

Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of five years, a measure intended to monitor and manage his potential risk to the community.

The court also mandated that Morris participate in a sex offenders’ rehabilitation program and complete 40 days of structured rehabilitation activities aimed at reducing the likelihood of reoffending.

In a statement reflecting the seriousness of the case, Detective Sergeant Joanne Delahay of West Mercia Police expressed her satisfaction with the outcome.

She emphasized the importance of the court’s decision and the broader message it sends about internet safety and accountability.

She stated, “A child is victimized not only when they are abused and an image is taken – they are re-victimized every time that image is viewed by someone.

This case sends a clear message that the internet is not a safe anonymous space for downloading indecent images of children.

Those that access such images should know that they can and will be traced.” Furthermore, the court allowed a further charge of possession of 332 prohibited images of children to remain on file, indicating ongoing concerns about the extent of Morris’s activities.

To protect his privacy, an order was issued to prevent the disclosure of Morris’s address, ensuring his location remains confidential.

This case underscores the persistent efforts of law enforcement in Shropshire and across the region to combat child exploitation and safeguard vulnerable victims from further harm.
