ANDREW CAULFIELD'S DOMESTIC ABUSE SCANDAL IN DUNDEE: POLICE OFFICER'S SHAMEFUL BEHAVIOR REVEALED

Andrew Caulfield, a 48-year-old police officer from Dundee, has admitted to serious allegations of domestic abuse against his partner, Amanda Watson. The disturbing case highlights a prolonged period of harassment that spanned over nine months following their separation. During this time, Caulfield engaged in a relentless campaign of contact and intimidation, which included numerous phone calls, text messages, and emails directed at Watson. His persistent efforts to reach her did not stop there; he also made multiple visits to her residence, leaving cards on her door in an apparent attempt to maintain a presence in her life despite the breakup.

In addition to these acts of harassment, Caulfield issued warnings to a mutual friend, urging them to cease any contact with Watson. The court was also informed that Caulfield had physically assaulted Watson on at least one occasion, striking her with a door and grabbing her during an altercation. He further attempted to pull her off a bed, demonstrating a pattern of aggressive and controlling behavior that caused significant concern.

Prior to his trial scheduled for February of the previous year, Caulfield had already accepted a charge related to his violent conduct. Despite being warned that his actions could lead to dismissal from the police force, he chose to resign from Police Scotland while still suspended, a decision that allowed him to retain his police pension. This resignation came after a period of suspension lasting 16 months, during which he continued to receive full pay.

At Dundee Sheriff Court, Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown sentenced Caulfield to a two-year non-harassment order. The court acknowledged that Caulfield was a first-time offender and had managed to stay out of trouble for two years, which influenced the leniency of the sentence. However, the court also made it clear that this conviction would likely mark the end of Caulfield’s career in policing, given the severity of his misconduct.

Police Scotland issued a statement emphasizing the importance of integrity and proper conduct among officers, noting that current legislation does not prevent officers from resigning while under misconduct investigations. The force revealed that approximately 15 officers resigned or retired last year while facing complaints, with over 60 officers having resigned since 2019 under similar circumstances. Scottish politician Russell Findlay MSP highlighted the urgent need for legislative reforms to better protect the public and uphold the reputation of law enforcement, calling for measures that prevent officers with misconduct allegations from resigning to evade accountability.
