ALISTAIR COOK FAREHAM CHILD ABUSE IMAGES HORROR: JAIL SENTENCE IN SOUTH COAST

In October 2012, a man from Fareham was sentenced to nine months in prison after police uncovered a staggering collection of over 45,000 indecent images and videos depicting children. The investigation was triggered when authorities hacked into a website that had been hosting illegal content, and although Alistair Cook was not the hacker, investigators traced his online activity to his residence in Jubilee Court, Fareham.

Police executed a raid on Cook’s home in September of the previous year, seizing two computers that contained a disturbing array of images and films. These materials depicted young boys and girls, ranging from infants to 14-year-olds, being subjected to sexual abuse. The court was informed that Cook had been collecting such material over a period spanning from 2005 to 2012, amassing a collection that police described as among the worst of its kind.

At Portsmouth Crown Court, Deputy Circuit Judge Patrick Hooton sentenced Cook, aged 49, after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges. These included 25 counts of possessing indecent images of children, seven counts of possessing extreme pornography, and seven counts of possessing prohibited images of minors. The judge emphasized the grave nature of Cook’s actions, stating that his behavior contributed to the suffering of countless children and supported a vile industry that exploits and harms young victims.

Judge Hooton remarked, “I don’t know whether you have come to realize that in fact, downloading these images, looking at these images, can only help encourage and support a vile industry which obliges children to take part in sexual activities and on many occasions causes suffering. They are not willing partners in any of this. It’s a massive industry which has caused untold suffering. Anyone who takes part in it, as you have done by downloading these images, has helped to create it – you must appreciate that that is the case.”

As part of his sentence, Cook was subject to a sexual offences prevention order that restricts his internet usage. Additionally, he will be registered as a sex offender for the next ten years and is prohibited from working with children in any capacity.

During the hearing, Cook’s defense lawyer, Barry McElduff, stated that his client had taken steps to address his issues by contacting the Stop It Now helpline. “The penny has dropped with him that this contributes to the harm of children,” McElduff said. Despite this, the court made it clear that the severity of Cook’s actions warranted a custodial sentence, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing threat posed by individuals involved in such illegal activities.
