ALEXANDER WORKMAN OF LEEDS SENTENCED FOR STRANGULATION AND PAEDOPHILE OFFENSES IN LEEDS AND BEESTON
In August 2022, Alexander Workman, a man with a troubling criminal history from Leeds, was convicted and subsequently sentenced for a series of serious offenses, including domestic violence and online child exploitation. The incidents took place in Leeds and Beeston, highlighting a pattern of disturbing behavior that has now culminated in significant prison time.
Workman, aged 39 and residing on Beeston Road, was handed a 16-month prison sentence at Leeds Crown Court after a violent altercation with his former partner.
The incident occurred on the evening of July 3, following a day in which Workman had been drinking at a neighbor’s house before returning to his home.
The court heard that the argument escalated when his partner questioned him about his alcohol consumption.
During the confrontation, Workman grabbed her by the throat with one hand, an act of violence that was both frightening and aggressive.
She attempted to call the police to seek help, but Workman snatched her phone away, preventing her from making the call.
The situation intensified as Workman began crying and apologizing, only to revert to violence moments later.
He attacked her a second time, again grabbing her throat and pressing his knee against her chest, demonstrating a dangerous level of aggression.
When police arrived at the scene, Workman attempted to flee but was quickly detained and placed in the back of a police van.
During the transport, he struggled and threw himself against the van walls.
An officer tried to calm him, but Workman responded with violence, headbutting one of the officers in the face.
Following his arrest, Workman refused to cooperate with police interviews, choosing to give a no-comment response at the station.
It was also revealed that he has a long history of criminal behavior, with six previous convictions covering eleven offenses.
Notably, he was jailed in 2014 for engaging in sexual activity with a child and again in 2018 for attempting to meet a girl under the age of 16.
As part of his ongoing supervision, a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) was imposed, and he was required to register as a sex offender.
In addition to the charges of strangulation and assault on an emergency worker, Workman admitted to breaching the terms of his sex offenders register by failing to inform authorities of a change to his Xbox username, which was linked to internet activity.
His criminal record and recent behavior paint a disturbing picture of a man with a history of predatory and violent conduct.
Further details emerged from a separate incident involving online activity.
Workman believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl and engaged in sexually explicit messaging, including sending photos and videos with the intent of sexual activity.
Unbeknownst to him, he was actually speaking to a member of the paedophile hunting team SJ-6, who posed online as a minor to catch predators targeting children.
This team confronted Workman in December 2017, leading to his arrest.
The police were called, and he was remanded in custody due to his prior convictions.
At court, Workman admitted to sexual communication with a minor and was sentenced to three years in prison.
The judge also ordered that he must register as a sex offender for life and remain under a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, emphasizing the severity of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community in Leeds and beyond.
