ALEXANDER RARITY SENTENCED IN STOKE-ON-TRENT FOR BREACHES AND SEX OFFENCES

In February 2019, Alexander Rarity was jailed for breaching a court order by staying overnight in the same house as a child. The 31-year-old, who resides on Bycars Road, Burslem, had contacted a woman via a dating site, claiming to be a semi-professional footballer. After their online interactions, he spent a night in her Anglesey home with her and her seven-year-old daughter, and another night at her residence. This conduct breached his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which prohibits him from living or sleeping in the same house as a child under 16, and also requires him to notify police if he stays in a house with a child for over 12 hours.

Rarity, who had previously been convicted of rape and sexual activity with a child in June 2007, was found out by the woman when she searched his background after her suspicions arose. The police were then contacted, leading to his conviction and sentencing. Judge Paul Glenn at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court sentenced Rarity to 15 months in prison, emphasizing that he was aware of his restrictions but chose to violate them.

Prosecutor Stuart Clarkson explained that Rarity met the woman on PlentyOfFish.com, exchanged photographs, and arranged to meet. On September 28, the woman took a break with her daughter and friends to a bungalow in Wales, where Rarity arrived at 4 p.m. and stayed overnight. Although he took her daughter to shops and the beach during the visit, there was no suggestion of any illicit activity. Nonetheless, the woman’s concern grew after she discovered his criminal history and confronted him, prompting her to alert the police.

Regarding his legal status, Rarity remains on the sex offenders’ register and is subject to the SHPO indefinitely. During sentencing, Judge Glenn acknowledged that Rarity hadn’t targeted women with children specifically but noted his repeated disregard for court orders, displaying contempt for legal restrictions.

Earlier, in June 2007, Rarity, then 20, known as Sandy, was jailed for seven years after being convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl and engaging in sexual activity with two other underage teenagers. Prosecutor Matthew Lowe detailed that in October, Rarity had sex with a girl just days before her 14th birthday, with no complaint filed until later victims came forward. That same month, he also assaulted another 13-year-old girl who was babysitting; he returned drunk and drugged her before having sex despite her young age.

In November 2007, Rarity picked up a 13-year-old girl, forced himself on her at an undisclosed location, and caused her significant distress. Judge Patrick Eccles QC described Rarity as 'reckless and manipulative,' highlighting that he had coerced the girls into sex by getting one intoxicated and that he did not use protection, which added to the severity of the offences.

The judge sentenced him to seven years’ imprisonment, lifetime registration as a sex offender, and a ban from working with children. During his sentencing, Rarity's defense noted that he had become a born-again Christian and that his offending began after his seven-year-old sister was murdered by his mother’s partner ten years prior, and he had 27 previous convictions.
