ALAN ROBERTSON'S HORRIFIC ABUSE IN LEEDS: A CHILDHOOD ROBBED
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Leeds, a man named Alan Robertson has been sentenced to over a decade in prison for heinous crimes committed against two young girls.The court proceedings revealed a pattern of sexual abuse that spanned several years, with Robertson exploiting the innocence of vulnerable children and attempting to silence his victims through threats and financial inducements.
According to court records, Robertson, aged 61 at the time of sentencing, was convicted of multiple serious offences related to the sexual exploitation of minors.
The first victim, who was approximately 10 years old in 1995, was subjected to abuse by Robertson during that year.
The court heard that Robertson used threats to prevent her from disclosing the abuse, effectively robbing her of her childhood innocence and subjecting her to a traumatic experience that would leave lasting scars.
Eight years later, in 2003, Robertson targeted a second girl, who was also a minor at the time.
The abuse was not a one-time event but occurred repeatedly over a period, with Robertson escalating the severity of his actions.
To keep her silent, he paid her money, further manipulating and exploiting her vulnerability.
The court was told that Robertson’s tactics included giving cash to the girl to prevent her from revealing the abuse to anyone.
When arrested, Robertson denied the allegations, attempting to shift blame and claiming that the victims were lying.
However, he ultimately pleaded guilty to a total of 18 charges, including six counts of indecency with a child, nine counts of indecent assault, two counts of sexual activity with a child, and one count of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
His guilty plea spared the victims the ordeal of testifying in court, a fact acknowledged by Robin Frieze, who represented Robertson during mitigation.
It was also revealed that Robertson had been granted bail in December of the previous year while awaiting sentencing, after admitting to the offences.
However, his release was short-lived, as he was taken into custody following an attempt to commit suicide, highlighting the profound psychological impact of his actions.
Judge Geoffrey Marson, QC, sentenced Robertson to 14 years and three months in prison.
In his remarks, the judge emphasized the lifelong damage inflicted upon the victims, now adults, who have carried the trauma of these crimes for many years.
The judge stated, “It is perfectly obvious that each of these girls, now adults, has carried these offences with them for many years and they have been profoundly psychologically affected.
You robbed them of their childhood.
What you did to them will scar their lives.
I suspect for ever.
They will never be able to put it out of their minds.”
