ADAM WHITFIELD OF NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS SENTENCED FOR DEPRAVED CHILD RAPE VIDEOS
In April 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Adam Whitfield, a resident of Newton-le-Willows, whose actions have shocked the local community and beyond. The case came to light after a call from Whitfield’s mother to the police, which ultimately uncovered a collection of heinous and depraved videos depicting the sexual abuse of infants and young children.According to court reports, Whitfield, aged 26 at the time, possessed a total of 30 videos that contained extremely graphic and disturbing footage of children being raped. These videos were stored on his mobile phone and computer, which were seized by authorities following the police visit. The investigation revealed that the videos spanned a period from July 25, 2017, to May 3, 2020, indicating a prolonged period of offending.
The police were initially called to Whitfield’s residence in Newton-le-Willows in relation to a separate potential offence, which was not pursued further. During the visit, his mother handed over several of his electronic devices, including a mobile phone and a computer, to the officers. Upon examination, law enforcement officials discovered 32 indecent images, of which 30 were videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. The content was described as utterly depraved, with some videos featuring infants as young as three months old, as well as children aged between six months and seven years.
One particularly disturbing video lasting just 16 seconds showed a three-month-old baby being raped. Other scenes were so graphic that they could not be fully described in the court proceedings. The judge presiding over the case, Thomas Teague QC, emphasized the severity of the material, stating that even the least severe category of images, Category C, would be considered disgusting by any reasonable person. He further described the videos as “exceptionally depraved,” highlighting the profound nature of Whitfield’s offenses.
During the trial, Whitfield admitted to three counts of making indecent images. The court heard that some of the children depicted in the videos displayed clear signs of pain and distress, which aggravated the severity of the crimes. The judge also noted that Whitfield’s pre-sentence report painted a troubling picture, describing him as a “vulnerable” individual with an “unhappy childhood.”
In sentencing, Judge Teague sentenced Whitfield to eight months in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years and to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for the same period. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Newton-le-Willows, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the ongoing fight against child exploitation and abuse.
