GOLBORNE MAN STEPHEN LAMB SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCE IN LIVERPOOL
In August 2005, Stephen Lamb, a resident of Banks Street, Golborne, was sentenced after pleading guilty to a sexual offence involving a 12-year-old girl.
The case was heard at Liverpool Crown Court, where it was revealed that Lamb, formerly of Newton-le-Willows, attempted to encourage the young girl to engage in sexual activity.
The incident came to light when the 12-year-old girl confided in a school mentor about Lamb’s inappropriate comments over a two-week period.
Prosecutor Geoffrey Fryar explained that when Lamb, aged 38, was arrested, he said, "I know what it's about, I’m sorry." Despite this, Lamb casually remarked that he believed his actions had been acceptable when questioned about the nature of his comments.
Throughout the court hearing, Lamb appeared visibly distressed, trembling excessively.
He ultimately admitted to unlawfully inciting the girl to partake in sexual activity.
Judge David Boulton sentenced Lamb to a three-year probation period, during which he must participate in a sex offender’s rehabilitation program.
Additionally, Lamb was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years, meaning he must inform police of his name and address, and update these details if they change.
Failure to comply with the registration requirements constitutes a criminal offence, punishable by up to five years in prison.
