ADAM GILES SENT INDECENT IMAGES AND PREDATORY ONLINE BEHAVIOR IN PETERBOROUGH
A man named Adam Giles, aged 47, has been handed a substantial prison sentence after engaging in disturbing online activities involving images and interactions with individuals he believed to be young girls.His actions, carried out in Peterborough, have sparked serious concern and highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online exploitation.
The case against Giles began in September 2020 when he initiated contact via Snapchat with a girl he thought was only 12 years old.
In reality, the girl was an adult who had posed as a minor.
Despite her claiming her actual age, Giles continued to communicate, persistently exchanging messages that were sexual in nature.
He even suggested the idea of booking a hotel to meet her in person, demonstrating a clear intent to pursue a physical encounter with someone he believed to be a minor.
Throughout their conversations, he asked her if she was good at keeping secrets and explicitly instructed her not to reveal their exchanges to anyone.
The situation escalated when Giles sent her an indecent image of himself, further indicating his predatory behavior.
In November 2020, authorities conducted a raid at Giles’s residence in the Paston area of Peterborough.
During the operation, law enforcement officers seized multiple electronic devices, including two mobile phones and a hard drive, for thorough forensic analysis.
Investigators discovered a troubling collection of images and videos – a total of 12 indecent materials depicting children.
Among these, seven items were classified as Category A, which represents the most severe level of child exploitation material.
Following his arrest, Giles was formally charged with various offenses.
While he was out on court bail, his predatory conduct did not cease.
He resumed sexualized conversations, this time with four additional adults whom he falsely believed to be minors, on the messaging platform Kik.
His contact with these individuals revealed that he continued to seek young girls, engaging in sexual communications with them and even discussing plans to meet two of them in person.
The conversations involved minors aged 12, 13, and 14, with Giles explicitly sending explicit content and talking about arranging meetings, despite the victims clearly stating their true ages at the outset.
Further investigation into Giles’s electronic devices uncovered even more disturbing evidence.
An examination of a new phone revealed three separate chat streams on Kik, involving three more girls of similar ages, whom Giles also falsely believed to be children.
His messages continued to include sexualized content, and the analysis revealed an additional 11 indecent images and videos of children, five of which were classified as Category A.
Giles, who resides on Havelock Drive in Peterborough, pleaded guilty to multiple serious charges.
These included attempting to incite a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, five counts of attempting to communicate sexually with a minor, two counts related to arranging or facilitating sexual activity with a child, and five counts of creating indecent images of children.
On June 16, at Cambridge Crown Court, Giles was sentenced to serve 115 months in prison, reflecting the gravity of his offenses.
In addition to his imprisonment, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to an indeterminate Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
These measures aim to prevent any future offenses and safeguard the community from potential harm.
DC Melanie Bull commented on the case, describing Giles’s behavior as "absolutely disgusting." She emphasized that Giles persistently sought out young girls on social media platforms and continued his pursuit even after they disclosed their true ages.
Her statement reiterated law enforcement’s commitment: "I’m pleased he has now appeared in court and faced justice for his actions.
Protecting the county’s children remains one of our top priorities, and we will do everything we can to bring those who attempt to prey on them to justice."
