In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Edinburgh, 27-year-old Adam Robinson, formerly known as Adam Bushell, has been found guilty of breaching court-imposed restrictions designed to monitor sex offenders. Robinson’s actions have raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of current supervision measures and the risks posed by repeat offenders who go to great lengths to conceal their past.

Robinson’s criminal history is deeply troubling. He was initially convicted in 2016 after being caught by the vigilant paedophile hunters from Dark Justice. They had arranged a meeting with what they believed was a 13-year-old girl, but it was later revealed that Robinson had been communicating with the decoy under false pretenses. His attempt to meet what he thought was a minor was part of a pattern of predatory behavior that led to his imprisonment.

He met a woman through a dating website and moved into her residence in Edinburgh, where she lived with her 10-year-old daughter. For eight months, Robinson lived with them, during which time the woman was unaware of his criminal background. It was only after a concerned friend conducted a Google search that the truth about Robinson’s past was uncovered. The revelation was shocking to all involved, especially considering the woman was pregnant at the time she discovered his history.

There is no evidence to suggest that Robinson harmed the young girl he was left alone with on several occasions, but the fact that he was in close proximity to her without supervision or disclosure raised serious alarm bells. The court heard that Robinson had even changed his name to Andrew Robinson in an apparent attempt to hide his identity and past crimes, a move that the judge described as “devious.”

Judge Simon Batiste, presiding over the case at Newcastle Crown Court, condemned Robinson’s actions. He emphasized the high level of risk associated with Robinson’s behavior, especially given his previous convictions. The judge stated, “I am satisfied you changed your name in order to hide your identity and hide your past. You lived with a 10-year-old child and never notified her mother. In my judgement, these were very high risk actions, given your previous convictions. They show a very high level of deviousness and connivance.”

Robinson’s failure to adhere to the legal restrictions resulted in his re-imprisonment for a term of two years. He admitted to breaching the sex offender registration requirements and violating a sexual harm prevention order, which remains in force. The judge made it clear that such orders are not mere formalities but are enforceable measures designed to protect the public.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Batiste warned Robinson that continued high-risk behavior would lead to longer custodial sentences. “People who behave in such a high risk way, having committed the past offences you have, must understand these orders, the sex offenders register, and the sexual harm prevention order, have teeth. You must understand, these requirements upon you must be met or longer and longer custodial sentences will follow,” he said, underscoring the seriousness of the breach and the potential consequences of further violations.
