BAHAR-SIBELA SABAN FROM EDINBURGH CHARGED WITH CHILD NEGLECT IN PERTH
A woman identified as Bahar-Sibela Saban has been formally charged with child neglect following a disturbing incident in Perth city centre that involved a three-year-old boy. The incident came to light after witnesses reported hearing what they described as 'hysterical' screams emanating from a flat located on Kirkgate.According to court proceedings at Perth Sheriff Court, Saban had left two young children, aged two and three, alone in her second-floor flat on Kirkgate while she went out to purchase food. The incident occurred on November 11, 2022, with Saban leaving the residence at approximately 3:35 pm. She returned about thirty minutes later, at which point the distressing situation was already unfolding.
During the court hearing, prosecutor Stuart Hamilton revealed that the two children in her care were asleep when she left. The court was also informed that a third child, the boy whose screams had been heard, was initially believed to be under the supervision of another woman, who was originally listed as a co-accused in the case. However, it was later clarified that the claim of the boy hanging backwards out of a second-storey window was withdrawn from the charge, indicating that this specific allegation was not pursued in court.
Saban, aged 21, admitted to exposing the children to a risk of unnecessary suffering or potential injury to their health. The court was told that her actions could have resulted in serious harm, but fortunately, no physical injuries occurred during her absence.
Sheriff Alison McKay addressed Saban directly, expressing her concern about the situation. She stated, “I hope you gather that you were very, very lucky that nothing happened to the children while you were gone.”
Following the proceedings, Saban, who resides at Hawkhill Court in Edinburgh, was admonished by the court. Her case highlights the dangers of leaving young children unattended and underscores the importance of responsible supervision to prevent potential tragedies.
