MICHAEL CROLLA FROM EDINBURGH SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND CHILD ASSAULT
Michael Antonio Crolla, aged 35 and residing in Edinburgh, has been convicted of serious criminal offenses involving domestic violence and child abuse. His criminal record includes a conviction for domestic assault causing actual bodily harm, as well as charges related to assaulting a child. The case was brought to trial in February 2016, where Crolla was found guilty of multiple charges that highlight a pattern of violent behavior.During the proceedings, it was revealed that between June 2015 and September 2015, Crolla repeatedly subjected his former partner to physical abuse. Witnesses and evidence presented in court detailed how he would seize her by the neck, push her forcefully, and strike her with his knee, causing her significant physical and emotional distress. These incidents were described as brutal and were part of a series of violent episodes that culminated in her suffering actual bodily harm.
In addition to the domestic violence charges, Crolla was also convicted of assaulting a child. The court heard that in December 2014, he repeatedly struck a young victim with a belt, inflicting physical pain and emotional trauma. The details of this assault were particularly distressing, and the court considered the impact on the victims when determining the sentence.
The court listened to a victim impact statement that conveyed the profound distress and lasting effects experienced by the victims of Crolla’s violence. The statement underscored the severity of his actions and the trauma inflicted on those vulnerable individuals.
As a result of his convictions, Michael Crolla was sentenced to a total of nine months in prison. He is to serve three months behind bars, with the remaining six months to be served under a home detention curfew, a measure that allows him to serve part of his sentence at home under strict conditions. This case underscores the ongoing efforts of the justice system to address domestic violence and protect victims from further harm.
