SOUTHAMPTON MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL WIFE MURDER
A 31-year-old man named Abdelaziz El Yechioui Ourzat has been convicted of murdering his former partner, Cristina Ortiz-Lozano, in a violent stabbing incident.The attack occurred at her home on Spear Road, Southampton, following his stalking of her after she went on a date with another man.
Evidence at trial showed Ourzat waiting outside her house with flowers before following her inside and stabbing her multiple times in the kitchen with a drawer knife.
Cristina, 28, was stabbed at least 23 times, which led to her death and sparked shock in the local community.
Ourzat pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility but was convicted of murder after a trial lasting two weeks.
His sentencing by Judge Jane Miller QC resulted in a life sentence with a minimum of 19 years, with the judge describing the attack as 'savage, ferocious and sustained.' The court learned that Ourzat and Cristina had been together for 12 years, having met at school in Spain, and they moved to the UK in 2018, living first in Liverpool and then Southampton.
During sentencing, Cristina’s father, Manuel Ortiz, spoke of the family’s devastation and love for Cristina, emphasizing the tragedy of her loss.
Detective Inspector Toby Elcock described Ourzat as 'extremely dangerous,' citing jealous and abusive behavior that played a crucial role in the killing.
This case highlights the hazards of domestic violence and stalking, as Ourzat faces a minimum of 19 years behind bars for his crime.
