AARON MAGUIRE AND SHOCKING SEXUAL MISCONDUCT IN SOUTHAMPTON
A man named Aaron Maguire, aged 52, from Bursledon, Southampton, found himself at the center of a disturbing case involving manipulative and predatory behavior.The incident unfolded after Maguire became aware of a woman who was selling a watch on Facebook Marketplace.
Disguising his intentions under false pretenses, he approached her with an ulterior motive that quickly turned into an alarming ordeal.
According to the court proceedings, Maguire visited the woman's home in Southampton under the pretense of purchasing the watch.
To conceal his identity, he used a Facebook account that appeared to be his wife’s, allowing him to pose as her.
He agreed to buy the watch and arranged to collect it from her residence.
However, what transpired during the visit revealed a much darker intent.
Prosecutor Ed Warren detailed that once inside the woman’s home, Maguire made inappropriate remarks about her physical appearance, specifically commenting on her nails.
He also asked to kiss her, a request she clearly refused.
The situation escalated when Maguire expressed a desire to see her body and stipulating that he would only buy the watch if he could perform a sexual act on her.
In an extraordinary and disturbing offer, he even proposed paying her £130 for the watch, suggesting that she could "make up the rest" of the price if she agreed to participate in an adult film with him.
During the encounter, Maguire’s behavior continued to be invasive.
He touched her arm and bluntly stated he would return the next day to retrieve the watch.
After he left her home, the woman contacted the police, alarmed by the encounter.
Maguire was swiftly arrested later that day.
During police interviews, he claimed that his visit was not driven by sexual gratification but by a desire to provide “comfort” to the woman.
Despite his claims, it was confirmed that Maguire had sent her £10 after their interaction on December 2, 2020, as a gesture of apology, mentioning that he felt he had “wasted her time.” Maguire appeared before Southampton Crown Court on the Monday following his arrest, where he faced charges of sexual assault.
His defense lawyer, Chris Gaiger, expressed understanding and regret on his behalf, stating that Maguire accepted full responsibility for his actions and recognized the harm caused.
Gaiger also highlighted the possibility of rehabilitation, suggesting that Maguire could potentially benefit from corrective measures.
However, Judge Christopher Parker QC did not see the incident as a matter that could be remedied without significant intervention.
Addressing the court, the judge described the experience as "frightening" for the young woman, who was left without any support during the encounter.
The judge pointed out that Maguire’s actions, initiated after seeing her picture on his wife’s Facebook account, demonstrated a clear pattern of predatory behavior.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offence, making it clear that the only appropriate outcome was a custodial sentence.
As a result, Maguire was sentenced to twelve months in prison.
Additionally, he was issued an indefinite restraining order to prevent any future contact with the victim, underscoring the court’s recognition of the gravity of his misconduct and its commitment to safeguarding the victim from further harm.
