ZUBER JUMA'S REIGN OF TERROR IN LEICESTER: STALKING VICTIM LIVES IN FEAR DESPITE COURT ORDER

A woman in Leicester endured relentless harassment and stalking at the hands of Zuber Juma, despite a court-issued restraining order designed to prevent such conduct. The victim reported feeling constant fear and anxiety, as Juma repeatedly violated the legal restrictions by making contact and following her both at her residence and her workplace.

Juma’s persistent efforts to breach the order included sending messages and physically turning up near her home and workplace, actions that caused significant distress. The restraining order, issued on November 19, 2018, explicitly prohibited him from any form of contact or from entering the vicinity of her home or place of employment. Nevertheless, Juma disregarded these legal boundaries, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the court’s authority.

Evidence collected by the police played a crucial role in building the case against Juma. Photographs of his car taken at the victim’s residence and workplace, along with recorded phone calls and conversations, provided compelling proof of his continued harassment. The victim, along with her friends, actively participated in documenting Juma’s actions, which proved instrumental in securing his arrest.

On December 1, police apprehended Juma, and subsequent investigations revealed multiple attempts to contact the victim through various means, including a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. A colleague of the victim recognized Juma’s voice in the message, further confirming his involvement. The investigation also uncovered that Juma had made several efforts to breach the restraining order, including attempts to communicate via phone and other means.

Juma ultimately pleaded guilty to the charges of stalking and breaching the court order. His sentencing on April 1 resulted in a total imprisonment term of two years and eight weeks. This included an additional 24 weeks for breaching a suspended sentence previously imposed on him. The Leicester Crown Court emphasized the seriousness of his actions and the importance of adhering to court orders designed to protect victims.

Detective Constable Berni Rowlson commented on the case, stating, "Juma had no regard for the restraining order which was in place. His actions left a woman terrified even when at her own home or place of work. I would like to thank the victim for the courage she has shown which included gathering evidence including taking pictures. His actions underscore the seriousness of stalking, and we will take action whenever reports are made."

In the aftermath of his arrest, the victim received a distressing WhatsApp message from an unknown number, which she identified as Juma after a colleague listened to the voice message. The police investigation confirmed that Juma had made multiple attempts to contact her, highlighting his continued efforts to breach the legal restrictions. The case underscores the critical importance of victims reporting stalking incidents and the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies in Leicester to support victims and pursue offenders to ensure justice is served.
