KWAME EGHAN ATTACKS IN LEICESTER CITY CENTRE WITH PEPPER SPRAY AFTER SOCIAL MEDIA ROW

The individual responsible for a violent assault in Leicester city centre has been identified as Kwame Eghan. The incident involved him deliberately attacking his former girlfriend and her sister with pepper spray following a heated dispute over social media posts. This disturbing event took place on Thursday, March 13, in the heart of Leicester, and has since resulted in serious legal consequences for Eghan.

Kwame Eghan, aged 31 and residing on Ipswich Close in Beaumont Leys, was brought before Leicester Crown Court last week to face charges related to the assault. He pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to the two women, which occurred earlier in May, and was subsequently sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. In addition to this, Eghan admitted to breaching a restraining order previously issued against him and to unlawfully possessing a CS canister, which is classified as a firearm, at the time of the incident.

The assault unfolded outside a Maryland Chicken fast-food restaurant located in Leicester city centre. According to reports, the two victims, a woman identified as Miss Wilson and her sister, were leaving the premises when a heated argument erupted. During the confrontation, Eghan produced a small aerosol canister and began spraying the contents directly into their faces. Witnesses described how the women instinctively closed their eyes to shield themselves from the burning and stinging sensation caused by the pepper spray. One of the women reportedly experienced a panic attack and struggled to breathe amid the fumes.

Following the attack, the victims hurried back into the restaurant seeking assistance. The fumes from the spray caused other customers to cough and cough, highlighting the widespread impact of the assault. Miss Wilson was seen crying and screaming in pain, with both women suffering from swollen, bloodshot eyes as a result of the attack. Paramedics were called to the scene to provide medical aid and assess their injuries.

The court was informed that the victims endured significant discomfort, with the effects of the pepper spray causing eye irritation and emotional distress. In a personal statement read in court, the former partner expressed her ongoing fear, revealing that she now feels afraid to leave her home due to concerns of another attack or the possibility of acid being thrown in her face.

During mitigation, the defense argued that Eghan was upset over social media posts that criticized him, which he believed the victims were involved in. The judge, Mr. Justice Robert Brown, emphasized the seriousness of the offence, noting that the use of pepper spray in a public place during daylight hours was a reckless act that caused considerable discomfort. While the effects were not permanent, the judge underscored the gravity of spraying such a substance in a crowded, public setting and the potential danger it posed to innocent bystanders.

Ultimately, Eghan was sentenced to a prison term of two years and eight months, reflecting the court’s view of the severity of his actions and the need for accountability in such cases of assault involving dangerous substances in public spaces.
