YOUSEF CAMARA FROM BRADFORD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON SLEEPING WOMAN
A disturbing case of sexual assault has culminated in the imprisonment of Yousef Camara, a 24-year-old man from Bradford, who preyed upon a woman while she was asleep in her own home. The incident, which took place in Bradford, was brought to light during a trial held at Bradford Crown Court in July, and the subsequent sentencing occurred on a Monday.
According to court proceedings, Camara was allowed to stay at the property by two young women who lived there.
Despite a bed being prepared for him, he exploited their kindness and trust.
The court heard that Camara took advantage of the victim’s vulnerable state, assaulting her sexually as she slept.
The judge, Jonathan Gibson, emphasized that the victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, was particularly vulnerable at the time of the attack because she was unconscious.
Camara was found guilty of assault by penetration after a thorough trial.
The court was informed that he had previously suffered trauma, including the loss of a friend and experiences of racism, which his legal representative, Barrister Paul Canfield, highlighted.
Camara, who required an Italian interpreter during the proceedings, also reportedly endured an attack while in custody just last week.
Although no personal statement was submitted by the victim, Judge Gibson acknowledged her distress, describing her as “incredibly upset” about the incident.
The court sentenced Camara to five years in prison for the sexual assault.
Additionally, he was ordered to serve an extra two weeks after failing to attend a previous hearing in January.
As part of his sentence, Camara will be required to register as a sex offender for life and must adhere to an indefinite restraining order that prohibits him from making any contact with the victim.
The case underscores the serious consequences of such heinous acts and highlights the importance of justice for victims of sexual violence in Bradford.
