XAVIER MCMANUS AND THE TRAUMATIC ABUSE IN BRADFORD
A man from Bradford who exploited and manipulated two vulnerable 15-year-old girls into engaging in sexual activities has been sentenced to a six-year prison term.Xavier McManus, aged 22 and residing on Leeds Road in Bradford, was found guilty of serious offences related to sexual misconduct involving minors.
The court proceedings revealed that McManus employed underhanded tactics, including threats of self-harm, to coerce and persuade the young girls to meet him.
Judge Jonathan Rose, presiding over Bradford Crown Court, delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the danger McManus posed to young females.
In addition to the prison sentence, he ordered an extended four-year licence period to be served upon McManus’s release, indicating a stringent level of supervision due to the gravity of his actions.
The judge described the case as deeply troubling, particularly because of the vulnerability of the victims and the manipulative behavior displayed by McManus.
Addressing the court, Judge Rose stated, “I am quite satisfied that you have knowingly engaged in sexual relations with two young, vulnerable girls, each of them susceptible to the advances of an older man and each of them manipulated by your entreaties and your threats that you would harm yourself.” He further highlighted the significant psychological harm inflicted upon the victims, noting that both girls had suffered considerable emotional trauma since the offenses.
The court outlined the sequence of events leading to the arrest and prosecution of McManus.
The first victim was approached through social media, specifically Facebook, in August of the previous year.
After sending messages to her, McManus took her to a secluded location where he kissed her.
When she told him she was only 15, he dismissed her concerns, claiming he did not care.
Despite her protests and efforts to push him away, McManus persisted with sexual assault.
The girl, distressed and frightened, made it clear she did not wish to continue, but McManus continued his assault and was visibly upset when he realized he could not control the situation.
Following this incident, McManus contacted her again through messages, expressing a desire to meet once more.
During these exchanges, he also threatened to take his own life.
The girl confided in her mother, which led to McManus’s arrest and subsequent bail.
The second girl was approached by McManus via Facebook around April or May of the same year.
They eventually met up, and a consensual kissing relationship developed.
Over time, McManus manipulated her into visiting his home in Bradford during November, while he was still on police bail for the initial offence.
During this visit, they removed their clothes, and sexual intercourse occurred.
The girl later disclosed her experience to someone at her school, prompting her parents inform the police.
This led to McManus’s re-arrest.
Throughout the proceedings, Judge Rose acknowledged that neither girl was responsible for what happened, praising their courage in coming forward.
The court’s judgment underscores the severity of McManus’s actions and the vulnerability of his victims, highlighting the importance of safeguarding minors from such predatory behavior in Bradford and beyond.
