WILLIAM WALKER AND SHOCKING SEX CHARGES IN BLACKPOOL AND DOWNPATRICK
Last month, William Walker admitted guilt to a serious charge of attempted sexual communication with a child, involving dates from February 10 to February 15, 2022.The 60-year-old man, originally from Killyleagh but now residing in Blackpool, faced the court with the initial charge and chose to deny a second similar offence.
On Thursday, May 11, William Walker once again appeared at Downpatrick Crown Court to face the second charge, which he had previously denied.
The charge alleged that Walker had attempted to engage in sexual communication with a minor during the period from February 10 to February 23, 2022.
During the court proceedings, when questioned about the second allegation, Walker unexpectedly answered with a straightforward 'guilty.' Judge Geoffrey Miller KC observed that since Walker had now entered guilty pleas to both criminal charges, the court could proceed to set a date for the formal sentencing hearing.
A probation report is scheduled to be prepared in England prior to the sentencing, which Judge Miller indicated would take place on June 22.
It is important to note that William Walker has a prior conviction that requires him to be listed on the Sex Offenders Register, a consequence of his guilty plea last month.
He remains on bail, which continues until the scheduled sentencing date of June 22.
Walker’s case highlights the ongoing concern regarding the protection of children from sexual offences, and the court's proceedings reflect the seriousness with which such charges are treated.
