WILLIAM MCASLAN SENTENCED TO 8.5 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC ABUSE OF BABY IN GLASGOW

A man named William McAslan, aged 40, has been handed down a severe prison sentence of eight and a half years after being found guilty of a prolonged and brutal campaign of violence against a young child in Glasgow. The heinous acts, which spanned over a period of approximately 100 days, involved repeated assaults that caused the child to suffer serious injuries, leaving a lasting impact on the young victim.

McAslan’s actions were characterized by a disturbing display of hatred towards the baby, with the court hearing that he inflicted injuries through a series of violent acts including striking, squeezing, pressing, twisting, and shaking the child. The assault also involved blunt force trauma, which significantly endangered the child's life. Despite the severity of the injuries, McAslan failed to seek proper medical attention for the sick child, further endangering his health and well-being.

The case was brought before the High Court in Glasgow, where McAslan was convicted of multiple charges, including assault causing serious harm and endangering the child's life. The court heard that the abuse occurred on numerous occasions between January and April 2019, a period during which the child's suffering was prolonged and intense.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Michael O'Grady QC did not hold back in condemning McAslan’s actions. He described the abuse as “horror and utter wickedness,” emphasizing the prolonged nature of the suffering endured by the child. The judge also criticized McAslan’s apparent lack of remorse, noting that his emotional response appeared self-serving rather than genuine concern for the victim. The judge highlighted the profound personal and physical consequences for the child, warning that the emotional and psychological scars are likely to be significant and potentially life-changing.

Further details revealed that in late April 2019, the child's mother noticed that her child's arm was “limp and swollen,” prompting her to take him to the hospital. McAslan was present at the hospital during this time and reportedly complained about the trouble caused by seeking medical help for the child. The young victim remained hospitalized and under medical care until January 2020, reflecting the seriousness of the injuries sustained.

In addition to the charges related to the baby, the court also found McAslan guilty of assaulting another young boy between 2006 and 2015. This earlier incident involved hitting the boy and forcing him to stand naked in a common close, further illustrating a pattern of violent behavior.

Following his release from prison, McAslan will be subject to a three-year supervision order, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct. The court’s verdict underscores the gravity of his crimes and the devastating impact on his young victims.
