May 1997 Gauntlet of hate for child perv trucker A sick pervert who launched sex attacks on a teenage boy was jailed for three months Police threw a security ring around a court as 57 anti-paedophile campaigners staged a noisy demo. Burly lorry driver William Hoggan sat with his head bowed after admitting sex offences against the boy aged 14. The court heard the 42-year-old of Slamannan, Stirlingshire, had twisted sexual fantasies about the boy before he struck last year. He lured the youngster into his car and committed two acts of gross indecency in remote spots near his home. Valerie Barber-Fleming, prosecuting, told a packed Falkirk Sheriff Court: “The boy was approached by the accused and asked if he wanted to go for a run in his car. “The boy said yes. He knows the accused. His family know the accused.” After the attacks the boy ran off. Later Hoggan met him and apologised and said it would never happen again. But the evil lorry driver pounced again and drove the boy to a remote spot. Hoggan was caught by a police patrol who found him partially clothed and the boy in a distressed state. Sheriff Albert Sheehan said: “It’s quite clear this was a premeditated offence against a child.” David Glancy, defending, said the pervert had lost his wife, job and home and needed police protection.
